The Outpost

The Outpost is a space to pause and take stock. Like a traveller stopping to remove a rock from their boot, counselling helps you notice what’s causing pain, tend to it with care, and find your footing again for the road ahead.

Who will you meet at ‘The Outpost’?

I’m Gavin Douglas, a counsellor and supervisor based in Tom Price, Western Australia. I’ve lived and worked across the North West for many years, developing a deep understanding of the realities and challenges of regional life. My work has taken me from the prison system in Perth to communities across WA, where I’ve walked alongside people as they navigate life’s rough terrain.

It’s often in discomfort that we learn the most, when we have a safe place to pause and reflect. That’s where The Outpost Counselling & Supervision was born: from the belief that everyone needs space to slow down, make sense of their story, and find direction for the road ahead. In remote Australia, an outpost is a safe stop on a long journey—a place to refuel, recalibrate, and prepare for what’s next. I wanted to create that same kind of space for people, wherever they’ve come from.

I’m a registered Level 2 Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and hold a Master of Counselling and a Bachelor of Ministry. My approach draws on evidence-based methods that support emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and meaning-making. I work with adults, adolescents, and helping professionals, supporting reflection, resilience, and purposeful growth.

“The Outpost isn’t only for those carrying pain, it’s also for those ready to reflect on growth, change, and what’s next. Like an adventurer pausing after a long trek, it’s a space to take stock, gain clarity, and prepare for the next part of your journey.”
